“Brigada Verde” ("Green Brigade") was started in February, 2004 as part of a national initiative called Sirve Quisqueya. Sirve Quisqueya is a coalition of agencies that work to create opportunities for volunteerism for Dominican youth. Their mission is to improve the leadership and participation of youth in the implementation of community projects through teaching and youth groups. Brigada Verde has become the environmental wing of Sirve Quisqueya.
Brigada Verde provides a structure to channel the energies of dominican youth into activities directed at environment protection. Owing to the great need to reduce environmental degredation that has hampered the development of the country, Brigada Verde seaks to train educational facilitators in environmental education to revert this trend.

As members of Brigada Verde we are working so that dominicans:

Objectives of Brigada Verde
- To promote the spirit of volunteerism among dominican youth.
- To train facilitators in environmental knowledge.
- To promote the protectiono of our natural resources.
- Create a support network for groups and youth that work with the environment.
- To generate a larger participation in civil society and that in this way strengthen the Dominican democracy.
